LESSON

Write about cause and effect
WRITING
GET READY
Alina’s patient needed to change her diet. Alina wrote a report
describing the effects of the change. Have you ever decided to
change your eating habits?
STUDY THE MODEL
A
Read the report. What were the results of the patient’s change in diet?
I saw this patient for the first time a month ago. She is a
little overweight and reported having headaches often. She
also complained about feeling tired most of the time.
I diagnosed her as pre-diabetic. I explained that she needs
to be careful not to eat too much sugar, because she needs
to lower her sugar levels.
Consequently, the patient has changed her diet. She stopped
drinking soft drinks and started eating brown rice instead
of white rice. She also checks the ingredients on packaged
food carefully and pays attention to “hidden sugars.”
As a result of these changes, the patient ’s blood sugar level
has gone down. She reports that she gets fewer headaches.
She also says that she has more energy and doesn’t get tired
as quickly. Since she is eating less junk food, she has lost
some weight.
